Check for Windows updates on the Internet

To protect the Microsoft Windows operating system that is running on your virtual machine, check for updates on the Windows Update Web site. The Windows Update Web site provides a tool that scans your virtual machine and gives you a selection of updates that apply to the specific software on your virtual machine. New content is added to the Windows Update Web site regularly, so you can always get the most recent updates and solutions.

Note To visit the Windows Update Web site, you need to be connected to the Internet.

To check for Windows updates in Windows XP

In Windows, on the Start menu, click Help and Support.
Under Pick a Task, click Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update.
The first time you go to the Windows Update Web site, click Yes when prompted to install any required software or controls.
On the Windows Update home page, click Scan for updates.

To check for Windows updates in Windows 2000 Professional

In Windows 2000 Professional, start Internet Explorer.
In the address bar, type the following URL: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
The first time you go to the Windows Update Web site, click Yes when prompted to install any required software or controls.
On the Windows Update home page, click Scan for updates.
